President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Ukraine should not compensate for the lack of equipment and training by sending young soldiers to the front. He expressed this view on Tuesday, December 10, in a post on social media platform X.
«The media is discussing the lowering of the conscription age for Ukrainians to send them to the front. We should focus on equipping the existing brigades with technology and training personnel to use this equipment. We should not compensate for the lack of equipment and training with young soldiers», – the post reads.
Zelensky believes that the priority should be supplying missiles and reducing Russia's military potential, rather than lowering the conscription age in Ukraine. Therefore, the goal should be to preserve as many lives as possible, rather than stockpiling weapons.
At the same time, the president emphasized that the United States can succeed in bringing an end to the Russo-Ukrainian war, but this requires unity among America, Europe, and all those worldwide who value security, as well as strong positions and guarantees of peace.
It is worth noting that on December 9, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller announced that the United States and its allies would be ready to equip Ukrainian recruits if Kyiv agrees to expand mobilization. He also stated that Ukraine must make its own decisions regarding the composition of its Armed Forces.
«We have made it clear that if they create additional forces to participate in combat operations, we and our allies will be ready to equip and train those forces», – Miller added.
Recall that at the end of November, it became known that the administration of current U.S. President Joe Biden urged Ukraine to quickly increase the size of its armed forces by revising mobilization legislation. The U.S. proposal includes lowering the conscription age from 25 to 18 years.
