In Zhovkva, a car driver hit two women, resulting in one fatality.

On Monday, January 20, in the town of Zhovkva, Lviv region, a driver of a passenger car struck two women in a parking lot, one of whom died at the scene of the accident.

According to police reports, the accident occurred on January 20 around 11:20 a.m. on Lvivska Street in Zhovkva. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of a Peugeot 406, a 45-year-old local resident, lost control and veered into the parking lot, where he struck two women aged 56 and 67, residents of a village in the Lviv region, and collided with two vehicles – a Skoda Fabia and a VAZ 2111.

As a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, the 67-year-old woman died at the scene, while the other victim was hospitalized. The driver has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and a court will soon determine a preventive measure for him.

Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of traffic safety rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanctions for this article include imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with the possibility of a driving ban for up to three years or without such a ban. Law enforcement officials are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
