Why Ukrainians Should Cheer for Him
В прокат вышел фильм «Настоящая боль».

The dramedy "A Real Pain" has been released in theaters. The film is directed by the well-known actor Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network," "Now You See Me").

Cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) are complete opposites. Together, they embark on a tour to Poland to honor the memory of their late grandmother, who endured the horrors of World War II there. Their journey takes on new significance as long-buried family conflicts resurface against the backdrop of their family history.

In addition to Eisenberg and Culkin, the film features Will Sharp (from the series "The White Lotus"), Jennifer Grey ("Dirty Dancing"), Kurt Egawain ("Kill Your Friends"), and others.

The cousins' adventures in Poland blend humorous stories, complicated relationships, and genuine pain. They explore places from their grandmother's past, uncovering much tragedy. The characters become part of a larger tragedy not only of their own family but also of an entire nation, amidst all the significant changes in the world, no matter how hard they try to build their lives.
This road movie tells a story about healing wounds, analyzing problems, and emotional outbursts. This film is no exception. It is also touching, filled with warm irony and nostalgia.

The film is vying for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, which Eisenberg also wrote, making it an auteur piece in every sense of the word.

Additionally, the film has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (though there is some debate over the distinction between lead and supporting roles). Culkin has already received a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for this role, defeating Russian actor Yuri Borisov, who has curiously been nominated everywhere for his portrayal of a gopnik in "Anori," including for an Oscar. We wish Culkin success.

The film is being screened in theaters in its original language with Ukrainian subtitles.
