The U.S. introduced an alternative to the UN resolution on Ukraine, incorporating Russian amendments.

In the draft resolution, Russia's full-scale invasion is referred to as a "conflict."
США предложили альтернативу резолюции ООН по Украине с российскими поправками.

The United States has proposed its own draft resolution for the United Nations in connection with the third anniversary of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. This proposed draft significantly differs from the European version and includes Russian amendments, reported agencies Reuters and AP.

According to journalists, the resolution document proposed by the United States contains only three paragraphs. The text states that UN members "mourn the tragic loss of life during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict" and emphasizes that "the primary goal of the UN is to maintain international peace and security and to peacefully resolve disputes."

As reported by Reuters, the text also includes a line that "calls for an immediate end to the conflict and further urges a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia" – this was included in the alternative US resolution with Russian amendments. Thus, after the Russian modifications, the document "calls for an immediate end to the conflict, including by addressing its root causes, and further calls for a durable peace between Ukraine and Russia."

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that the US informed him prior to submitting the draft resolution to the General Assembly. The Russian representative described the US document as "a good step." Additionally, one Russian diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters that if the Russian amendment is adopted by the General Assembly, Russia will vote in favor of the American version of the resolution.

In the resolution text, Russia's full-scale aggression is referred to not as a war, but as a "conflict." It is noted that in the version of the UN resolution supported by Europe, it refers to the "full-scale invasion of Russia."

Voting on the text developed by Ukraine and the EU is scheduled for Monday, February 24. The text supported by Europe calls for the implementation of all previous resolutions adopted "in response to aggression against Ukraine," and demands that Russia immediately withdraw all its troops from Ukrainian territory and cease all military actions.

It is worth noting that earlier, Reuters, citing three informed sources, reported that representatives of the US and Russia had been secretly holding meetings in Switzerland for several months to have unofficial discussions regarding the war in Ukraine. According to the agency's sources, the negotiations took place during the transitional period following Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections.

On February 18, delegates from Russia and the US officially met for negotiations regarding Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian representatives were not present at the talks – President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the country would not recognize these negotiations, and he postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia from February 19 to March 10.
