On Friday, January 10, the United States imposed sanctions against the largest oil companies in Russia. This was stated in a report from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
As explained by Andriy Yermak, head of the President's Office, the sanctions target 400 individuals and organizations in Russia's energy sector that contribute to the aggressor country's budget and finance the war against Ukraine.
In particular, the sanctions include "Gazprom Neft" and "Surgutneftegaz," along with their subsidiary companies. This notably includes the Serbian company NIS, which is a subsidiary of the Russian "Gazprom Neft." Additionally, two terminals for exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) have been sanctioned. Furthermore, the U.S. has blocked the activities of the Russian insurance companies "Ingosstrakh" and "AlfaStrakhovanie," which insure vessels transporting oil. The sanctions list also includes:
Moreover, 184 tankers have also been added to the sanctions list. Additionally, 14 members of the board of directors of the state atomic corporation "Rosatom" are under sanctions. This company finances the military-industrial complex and is involved in the illegal control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The U.S. has also imposed restrictions on LNG terminals in Russia, including Portovaya and Cryogas Vysotsk, which will significantly reduce Russia's export capabilities.
