The Security Service of Ukraine apprehended an 18-year-old who attempted to detonate a military prosecutor's car in Odesa.

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and police have apprehended an 18-year-old boy who set fire to the car of a military prosecutor in Odesa on behalf of the Russian special services. This was reported on Friday, February 21, by the press service of the SBU.

According to investigators, the detainee blew up the vehicle of the prosecutor of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Southern Region on Thursday, February 20. As a result of the explosion, a passerby was injured. The young man was recruited by Russians through a Telegram channel that offered side jobs. On the orders of the occupiers, the Odesa resident independently manufactured explosives equivalent to 300 grams of TNT. To increase the blast radius, he additionally placed metal nuts in the explosives and hid it under the military prosecutor's car.

“Opposite the 'target,' the perpetrator set up a hidden mobile phone with remote access capabilities for the FSB. Subsequently, the Russian special service remotely activated the explosives,” the SBU reported.

Law enforcement officials apprehended the young man on the same day. During searches, they seized a mobile phone containing evidence of his communication with representatives of the Russian special service. The young man has been charged with committing a terrorist act (part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 12 years in prison. A court will soon determine a preventive measure for the suspect.
