Over the next two months, Ukraine plans to import 800 million cubic meters of gas from Europe. This is necessary to compensate for the reduction in production due to Russian shelling. This was reported by the news agency Reuters.

It is noted that recently, Russian forces have intensified attacks on Ukrainian gas storage facilities. Previously, Ukraine extracted about 52 million cubic meters of gas per day, while gas consumption during winter reached up to 140 million cubic meters daily. Due to Russian shelling, gas production in Ukraine has decreased by 40%. The gas fields of the Ukrainian company "Naftogaz" have come under attack.

“This heating season, we could have managed without imports, but attacks on production force us to import gas to compensate for the reduction in domestic output,” Reuters quotes an anonymous source.

Ukraine began to increase gas imports at the beginning of February. Since then, import volumes have surged nearly tenfold, exceeding 20 million cubic meters per day. According to Reuters, despite low gas volumes in storage, with planned imports and domestic production, Ukraine will be able to get through the heating season without imposing any restrictions on industry and the population. However, it is noted that Ukrainian gas storage facilities are vulnerable to Russian shelling, as they are mostly located in the frontline Kharkiv region and in the neighboring Poltava region.

According to a source from Reuters, by the start of the 2025/26 heating season, Ukraine needs to accumulate about 13 billion cubic meters of gas. At the beginning of the current season, there were 12.9 billion cubic meters of gas in Ukraine's storage facilities.

Recall that on February 10, as a result of a Russian attack, the production facilities of the Naftogaz Group in the Poltava region were damaged. Details regarding the consequences of the attack have not been disclosed by the company.
