On the night of Saturday, December 21, six men were detained in Transcarpathia while planning to cross the Tisza River in inflatable boats to reach Hungary. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service.
A group of unidentified individuals was spotted near the border around 2:00 AM by the border patrol of the "Vylok" department of the Mukachevo squad. A response team was immediately dispatched to apprehend the violators.
After overcoming a barrier fence, the men quickly moved towards the border. The patrol stopped them 300 meters from the state boundary. Four Transcarpathians, a resident of Kyiv, and a man from Vinnytsia admitted that they intended to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. According to the detainees, they planned to swim across the Tisza in inflatable boats.
“Having previously secured promises from smugglers for a safe and unobstructed border crossing, the men headed to the river. However, no means of transport were provided to them,” the State Border Guard Service detailed.
Currently, the squad's operatives are identifying individuals involved in organizing the smuggling of this group of men across the border. Protocols for administrative offenses were drawn up against the detainees, as stipulated by Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses for “Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine.” The cases have been sent to court.
