On the evening of January 20, in the village of Hannonpil, Shepetivka district, a drunk driver of a Chevrolet Lacetti caused a fatal accident and fled the scene. The offender was located and apprehended by the police. He faces up to ten years in prison for his actions.
As reported by the regional police press service, the accident occurred around 6:00 PM on Koretska Street in the village of Hannonpil. Preliminary information indicates that the driver of the Chevrolet Lacetti ran over a 59-year-old resident of Shepetivka who was lying on the road. The man succumbed to his injuries.
“The driver fled the scene of the accident. A 'Capture' plan was initiated for his search. Soon, law enforcement officers located and arrested the offender, who turned out to be a 54-year-old resident of the village of Horytsia,” the police stated.
A check with a "Drager" device revealed that the driver was intoxicated, with an alcohol level in his blood exceeding the norm by 5.5 times.
Investigators have opened a criminal proceeding under part 3 of article 286-1 (Violation of road safety rules by drivers operating vehicles while intoxicated, resulting in the death of the victim). The sanctions for this article range from five to ten years in prison.
