A police officer who sustained injuries from a Russian attack has died in a hospital in Chernihiv region. This was reported on Thursday, December 19, by the head of the Chernihiv regional military administration Vyacheslav Chaus and the press service of the National Police.

On the evening of Wednesday, December 18, Russian troops attacked the border area of Chernihiv region. The Russians shelled residential buildings in the Semenivka community using artillery. As a result of the attack, a 16-year-old boy was injured. Medical staff provided assistance to the victim, and his life is currently not in danger.

Meanwhile, in the Novhorod-Siverskyi district, a 41-year-old police officer, Serhiy Khavluk, who was on duty, sustained injuries from a drone attack. The officer was hospitalized in serious condition. However, on the morning of Thursday, December 19, the press service of the National Police reported that Serhiy Khavluk had died in the hospital from his injuries.

The police reported that Serhiy Khavluk was born and raised in the city of Novhorod-Siverskyi. He began his career in the internal affairs bodies in 2008 as a district officer. Later, he became a senior inspector on duty in the monitoring sector of the Novhorod-Siverskyi district police department. He is survived by his parents, wife, and three children.

“He diligently served at the border, was a sincere, kind, and responsible person. Serving in the police was a calling for Serhiy Khavluk. Despite all the challenges of war and the dangers of the border area, he was 100% dedicated to his work, as he and his colleagues ensured law and order and the safety of their fellow citizens,” the law enforcement agency stated.

Additionally, according to the head of the Chernihiv regional military administration, Vyacheslav Chaus, Russian occupiers shelled the region 21 times over the course of a day.
