The incident occurred in the village of Khryplin, part of the Ivano-Frankivsk community, on December 18. A 40-year-old local resident detonated a grenade near his home. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and law enforcement has opened a criminal case.
As reported by the police of the Ivano-Frankivsk region on December 20, the explosion was heard by relatives and neighbors of the local resident, who then called the authorities.
“A investigative task force, bomb disposal experts, and all relevant services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Police recovered metal fragments resembling grenade shrapnel, soil samples, washings, and other physical evidence,” the police stated.
At the time of the incident, the 40-year-old Khryplin resident was heavily intoxicated. His residence contained detonator capsules, an F-1 grenade, and other explosive devices.
The local man has been detained, and a preventive measure will be determined. He faces a prison sentence of three to seven years for illegal handling of weapons, military ammunition, or explosive substances.
