A Lviv court sentenced a soldier to five years in prison for committing a serious crime.

According to the case materials, Vasyl D. served in a military unit in the Lviv region. He abandoned his service on August 15, 2024, and was absent until January 31, 2025, totaling nearly six months.

The Lychakiv District Court issued a verdict for Vasyl D., a soldier from Ternopil region, who deserted his military unit during his service. The court sentenced him to 5 years in prison.

As stated in the case materials, Vasyl D. was serving in a military unit in Lviv region. On August 15, 2024, he deserted and was absent until January 31, 2025, which is nearly six months.

During the pre-trial investigation, Vasyl D. entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. Taking into account the circumstances of the case, Judge Roman Hrytsko found him guilty of desertion under part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 5 years in prison. The verdict can be appealed.

It is worth noting that until March 1, any serviceman who has committed desertion can voluntarily return to service without facing criminal liability.
