The Rivne City Court has issued a verdict for a 25-year-old Honda motorcycle driver who struck a pensioner at a crosswalk. The victim succumbed to her injuries in the intensive care unit. For his actions, the defendant received a two-year probationary sentence.

According to the verdict dated December 12, the accident occurred on May 20, 2024, near the church on Soborna Street in Rivne. Around 11:00 AM, the driver of the Honda PC32 motorcycle hit an 80-year-old woman who was crossing the road at an unregulated crosswalk. The victim was hospitalized, but three days later, she died in intensive care.

The defendant, Yuriy Ch., admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. He stated that he reconciled with the victim's family and compensated for the damages incurred. He requested not to be deprived of his right to drive, as he works as a driver in a military unit.

The victim's relative, who is the deceased's family member, requested that Yuriy Ch. be given a punishment not related to imprisonment, as he has compensated for the damages and is expected to pay an additional 205,000 UAH in moral damages over the course of a year.

Judge Yevheniy Sydoruk found the motorcyclist guilty under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic rules resulting in the victim's death), but exempted him from the main punishment and imposed a two-year conditional sentence. The decision can still be appealed in the appellate court.
